Oriental Cockroaches (Blatta Orientalis)

Primarily active at night, this pest thrives in warm environments but can also endure colder conditions; they cannot however withstand extremely hot and dry conditions.

Indoors, they can be found in heated buildings, underground heating ducts, drains, refuse tips, and outdoor areas near structures; they are capable of climbing rough surfaces and can reach upper floors through vertical ducts or elevators.

When not in motion, both nymphs and adults gather in groups in hiding places, attracted by a pheromone that promotes aggregation. They scavenge on a variety of foods but require access to free water.

In protected environments, they may even survive the winter outdoors, although they do not reproduce below 10 °C.

These pests have the potential to transmit disease-causing organisms, causing serious pest infestations across heated buildings like hotels, HMOs, hospitals and other institutions, especially in large city areas.

Oriental Cockroach Control

It is crucial to adopt a proactive and strategic approach in order to effectively eliminate the problem at hand.

We always advise taking into account the extended period of time it takes for the treatment to fully take effect, particularly when dealing with tolerant egg cases.

Firstly we will conduct thorough surveys utilising monitoring techniques and inspect during nighttime hours. We will then locate and treat all potential hiding places, continuously repeating treatments and closely monitoring the situation until complete control is achieved.

The majority of products approved for managing cockroach infestations are effective in killing these pests when they come into contact with them. As they are such a difficult pest to treat, the key is to use the treatment thoroughly, using various formulations.

We have a diverse selection of products accessible, such as baits, dusts, and residual sprays. The popular bait formulations contain hydramethylnon, fipronil, imidacloprid, and abamectin. It is important to select products that have lasting effects and are suitable for the specific conditions.

To intercept and control individual roaches that may wander into adjacent premises or rooms, surface sprays can be used. These sprays may contain fenitrothion, chlorpyrifos (both available in microencapsulated formulations), residual pyrethroids, and bendiocarb.

It is crucial to employ specialised application equipment whilst treating any form of pest infestation.

German Cockroach (Blattella germanica)

These infestations from Europe have more recently become popular across the UK; they are typically found in heated buildings rather than outdoors or in underground heating ducts.

The majority of the German Cockroach activity occurs during the night, and they thrive in warm and humid environments.

When not in motion, both nymphs and adults tend to gather together in groups, attracted by aggregation pheromones, hiding in narrow places that are in close proximity to sources of food and water.

Unlike the Oriental Cockroaches, German Cockroaches are capable of climbing smooth surfaces.

These pests have the potential to transmit disease-causing organisms in humans, causing serious pest infestations across heated buildings like hotels, HMOs, hospitals and other institutions, as these pests easily spread in the warm environments across food preparation surfaces, utensils, dishes, and human consumables whilst eating from decaying waste and drinking from unhygienic water sources.

German Cockroach Control

Similar to Oriental Cockroaches, thorough treatment is necessary for effective eradication. To combat these infestations, we advise using flushing aerosols and monitors for a comprehensive survey before treatment.

When dealing with greasy and hot environments, opt for products that can tolerate these conditions and apply them as needed. For the more contaminated areas, we recommend bait applications, and sprays for the surrounding areas.

It is crucial to employ specialised application equipment whilst treating any form of pest infestation.
